Unreasonable Parking Fees In Intramuros, Manila
It’s been a while since I last visited Intramuros in Manila. The place was very memorable to me since college days. It is like where my heart was left. But today was a surprised to me. The roadside in front of a fast food chain in Anda St. corner Muralla St. was no longer free parking. And unfortunately, maybe there are also areas in Intramuros that are not open to public parking. It was odd because why would the Intramuros management charge parking fees in front of a fast food chain like Jollibee? We ate less than 30 minutes at Jollibee and we were charged P40 for the parking fee.…

Why Celebrities Enter Politics?
Most of entertainment figures enjoy their fame. It is a hard-earned reward especially that more and more enters showbiz industry. Whether they admit it or not, many of them uses their fame to win ambitions in the political arena. As expected, when an actor declared his intention to run for elections, he would reasoned out that he wants to implement true reforms and development with a promise that he won’t become corrupt. Sounds convincing? Unfortunately, some of them are new in politics but move like traditional politicians (TRAPO) already. However, there are few showbiz personalities who are sincere in serving their people and they’ve got re-elected without poll cheating! So…

Is There A Need To Enhance The Features of Philippine Driver’s License?
Other countries did it good and their people had realized its convenience. I am referring to the enhanced driver’s licenses (EDL) to the motoring public that was developed by the Ontario government, in consultation with the Government of Canada and United States Government, as a passport alternative for Ontarians who are Canadian citizens to use when entering the U.S. by land or water. These cards are imbedded with radio frequency ID microchips that promote a more expeditious cross-border travel. In the Philippines, many would believe that it is already time to enhance our driver’s license in a way that it can also function as a smart card. If other government…

Why I Did Not Listen To President Aquino’s SONA
Until now I do not have any clue what the Philippine President Benigno Simeon Aquino III had delivered on his State of the Nation Address (SONA) last July 23. I did not listen to the radio nor watch on television. I did not even read the news about it online. Intently ignored such historic event, completely. People would say that I missed a lot not listening to his speech. But what will I gain if I did listen? I bet I will just add to a number of people criticizing the President and his performance to the government. So why I did not listen? 1. He will brag all his…

Filipinos Will Always Remember Dolphy
You will know if a person was loved by many. The death of Philippine Comedy King Rodolfo “Dolphy” Quizon Sr. is not only a lost of his family but for many Filipinos around the world. Every heart that he touched with all life’s lessons he taught and laughter he shared which gave a lift for many, Dolphy is unforgettable. As I joined those ordinary people who are very eager to view and give last respect to his wake at The Heritage Park, I’ve got an unexplainable feeling while watching them and I did not noticed that tears fell off my eyes. Elderly, children, disabled persons, even pregnant women with their…

Fare Hike Again?
Few weeks ago, most of the oil firms rollback their prices. But the groups of drivers and operators are too quiet to initiate fare rollback. This week, fuel prices went up again and Efren de Luna, president of the Alliance of Concerned Transport Operators (ACTO) with other transport groups, are very alert on seeking a minimum jeepney fare in Metro Manila of P10 for the first four kilometers of every trip! Luna insisted that their petition at the LTFRB [Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board] should be immediately approved after the diesel prices increased by P1.40. ACTO’s petition was filed together with fellow transport groups including Pasang Masda, the Federation…

Regular Salary for Bus Drivers
It was long overdue. The Philippine government should have already implemented giving regular salaries for bus drivers and conductors instead of daily commissions. At least, it is not too late to impose it starting today. However, will these new regulations really address the problem on road accidents? Most of the drivers are recklessly running through busy streets, especially in Metro Manila, because they want to acquire more commissions from what they will earn in a day. They have been dangerously racing with other buses to get the passengers first. And if the new salary and some incentives were imposed, will it be enough for the family of drivers and conductors?…

Will There Be Another Dolphy?
(UPDATED on July 10, 2012) He is a long time and the only known as king of comedy in the Philippine movie and entertainment industry. Rodolfo ‘Dolphy” Quizon made every Filipino’s heart warm and happy with his original style of presenting comedy films and shows. Nowadays, there are more showbiz personalities who followed his footsteps but no one, yet, beat his remarkable and effortless performances. Dolphy, is one of a kind great actor of his time. I grew up watching him and suddenly he was lost in the air because of his battle against diseases since 2009. Maybe some people did not notice his absence but for those he made…

Media-Unfriendly Hospitals
It is not to justify colleagues in media. Admittedly, some members of the press are lacking some discipline but it doesn’t mean all are the same. Prominent government officials and celebrities who are being hospitalized, are of course, newsworthy for media people. Reporters may tried to ignore it but since public figures are involve, they have no choice but to cover it. I started covering hospitals or I can call it as “hospital beat” when the former President Gloria Arroyo were confined at St. Luke’s Medical Center- Global in Taguig City. Then followed by the coverage at The Medical City because the impeached Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona was…
