Ogie Alcasid and Noel Cabangon to sing for AFP soldiers

Excellent performing artists Ogie Alcasid and Noel Cabangon will render songs for all Filipino soldiers for free.

The concert named HIMIGSIKAN 2011: ROCKrakan para sa Kapayapaan will start at 6 p.m. on April 27 at Armed Forces of the Philippines General Headquarters’ grandstand.

Prior to this, sometime February 2011, Alcasid and Cabangon, president and VP for External Affairs of the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM), respectively, expressed their intention to visit different camps and render songs for the soldiers

This expression of support came amidst the brewing controversy brought about by the ongoing Senate hearings on the alleged corruption in the military in early 2000.

Brigadier General Jose Z. Mabanta Jr. accepted the offer and instead of a simple “videoke” performance by volunteer OPM artists, a free concert and convergence of diverse cultures of the Filipino society was conceived. The goal was to visit camps as far as Mindanao.

Other objectives of the said activity are to boost the morale and pay tribute to the Filipino soldiery for the heroism and sacrifices in defending the freedom and independence enjoyed by the Filipino people; and to inculcate the values of creativity, Filipino identity and traditions, and the peaceful aspirations of the Filipino people through musical expressions.

Meanwhile, other volunteer OPM singer-artists includes Mitch Valdes and Cookie Chua.

it’s a good deed for Ogie and Noel to pay tribute to the Filipino soldiers. Kelangan talaga nila bigyan ng pagpapahalaga, D biro ang pinasok nilang propesyon.

It’s the right time to show our appreciation to our dear soldiers who are risking their loves for the nation in every battle. Hindi biro yung ginagawa nilang sacrifice and for me this simple gesture could at least make them feel loved and special, kahit yung iba e underpaid. You have to admire their bravery and loyalty.
