Family Survival Planning Checklist

In any situation, worst comes to worst, we could be at least have a little confidence if we knew we already prepared for something unexpected.

Start this process by gathering all the members of your family and discuss the following:

I. Emergency Escape Exits
* Draw a floor plan of your home.
* Make sure the children understand the drawing.
* Emphasize a meeting place outside your home in case of an emergency: where to meet near your home and where to meet in case of evacuation

II. Family Communication
* Every disaster would have its own peculiarities and most often your family may not be together when disaster strike. It is most important that every member should have a way to communicate with each other. Think of how each member can contact one another in different situations.
* Make sure every member of the family will have a directory of important numbers, be it relatives whom they can call and communicate with. Make it handy for everyone so it can be kept inside the wallet or purse.

III. Important records
* Store important documents like insurance policies, deeds, property records, and other important papers in a safe place, such as a safety deposit box. Make copies of these records and make sure to keep a copy inside your Family Kit Survival.
* It is always wise to “save money for rainy rains”. It is advisable to keep a small amount of cash at home in a safe place you can quickly access in case of an evacuation.
