A Testimony, A Drama And The True Motive
Finally, the Chief Justice of the Philippine Supreme Court faced the impeachment court trial today. It was the first time in Philippine history that a Chief Magistrate was put on a trial. He have said his piece. And for more than three hours in the witness stand, he had his time to lambast the President and all his detractors, especially the 188 solons who pursued the impeachment complaint against him. At one point, Corona became emotional. Cried but no tears. Corona submitted a waiver for all of his bank accounts and properties to be publicly scrutinized. However, it will effect only if all the impeachment complainants submitted their waivers too.…

The Chief Justice Will Testify at the Impeachment Court
Will he tell the truth? Will he send a threat? Or there will be a great twist? Philippine Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona will testify on Tuesday, May 22 to finally confront all the allegations hurled against him. The impeachment court is trying his said to be betrayal of public trust and the culpable violation of the Constitution, particularly the alleged fudged entries in his statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SAL-N). Corona is expected to divulge his side relative to the accusation of hiding $10 million bank deposits. Impeachment Trial Day 6: Miriam Quotes
Today, it’s even more exciting to follow the impeachment trial of Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona. Better not think about snail-pacing the trial, the good Senator hated to suffer from terminal boredom. More of Senator Santiago’s quotes today: Private prosecutor Arthur Lim got scolded: Please don’t treat me as a mere observer. I am a judge in this proceeding! In any trial court, … you should not speak, you should not take any behavior at all unless with the consent of the presiding judge. Don’t drown me out by screaming in this courtroom! Only I can scream here and my fellow judges! May I request the opportunity to speak.…

Photo Of PNoy With Prosecution Head
Upon seeing this photo, what comes to your mind? It might be highly inappropriate and suspicious to see the President having lunch or dinner with the head and members of the prosecution on the impeachment case against Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona. The three branches of government should be independent at all times. Isn’t it? Most of the prosecution members were solons and allies of the President in Liberal Party. Recently, they had a dinner party to celebrate the anniversary of the political party. The administration should have postponed the party and maintain a distance from the prosecution members, at least, until the case has been concluded. Should we…

Remembering My Impeachment Trial Coverage and Edsa Dos
Former President Joseph Estrada made history when he became the first impeachable official that was tried at the impeachment court, although the process failed to finish when the People Power 2 erupted in January 2001. The impeachment was triggered by the allegations of Estrada’s close friend, Ilocos Sur governor Luis Chavit Singson. He claimed that Erap received from him P400 million as payoff from jueteng and hidden in a bank account as Jose Velarde. November 13, 2000 when the impeachment case was filed against Estrada and, then House Speaker Manny Villar fast-tracked the complaint and brought to the Senate, which convened as an impeachment court with former Supreme Court Chief…

President Aquino’s Potential Dictatorship and A Would-Be Puppet Chief Justice
After many times that President Benigno Simeon Aquino III blasted the Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona, the latter today delivered his fighting speech. I may not be a supporter of the Arroyo administration or Chief Justice Corona, but I agree with the magistrate. However, it is just fair to hear the government’s version and defenses. Unfortunately, not every Filipino would understand the implication of this crisis thus they may be use for personal and political gain. Ako Ang Unang Tagapagtanggol Ng Hustisya Isang mainit at mapagpalayang hapon po sa ating lahat! Tunay na hustisya, kadakilaan ng Kataas-taasang Hukuman, at kalayaan ng hudikatura, tatlo pong prinsipyo na nagbibigay sa akin…

Constitutional Crisis in the Philippines
Early next year, another history of impeachment trial in the Philippines will unfold. This time, a Chief Justice of the highest court in the land will be in the hot seat. President Benigno Simeon Aquino III is unstoppable. He boldly expressed overly dismay against Chief Justice Renato Corona, who in an instant, was impeached by the President’s allies in the House of Representatives. I doubt if the lower house legislators who pushed the impeachment complaints studied well enough. The solons alleged the betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption and culpable violation of the Constitution committed by Corona. But, do they have enough basis? Did they really read the documents…

In This Crisis, We Stand Together
Just sharing this speech… In This Crisis, We Stand Together* by HON. JOSE MIDAS P. MARQUEZ Court Administrator and Spokesperson Supreme Court As you all know by now, our Chief Justice Renato C. Corona has been impeached in blitzkrieg fashion, in an unprecedented, lightning-like, coming together of 188 members of the House of Representatives. This astonishing, astounding feat has never been seen in response to urgent legislation long pending and gathering dust in the halls of our revered Congress. I will not be quick to impute impartiality or bias but I am sure that many of you will agree with me that there is much much more than meets the…
