Texting While Driving = Accident + Death
One rush morning and on my way to work, I decided to take a FX taxi service. Good thing that there is no heavy traffic that time. But some drivers apparently do not understand or keep on disregarding how risky they are doing—TEXTING WHILE DRIVING. We are on a highway, yet, he’s busy texting and answering calls every now and then. They haven’t learned their lessons. According to independent studies, almost 16,000 cellphone-related accidents were recorded worldwide in 2010. Also, Philippines Global Road Safety Partnership and the Philippine National Police (PNP) noted that accidents caused by the use of mobile phones rose 601 percent to 491 in 2009 from 70…

Business Interests Over Consumers’ Protection
Soon, the price of every 11-kilogram tank of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the market will reach P1,000 mark. Since the start of the year, LPG prices increased monthly by P100 to P150 per tank. And with the coming weeks, series of oil price hike are also expected. Big oil companies and independent manufacturers pointed it to the movement of international market price of LPG. It has always been their excuse. Even if they are currently selling old stocks, they still implemented price hike. Unfortunately, the government cannot do anything to stop the increase which makes ordinary Filipinos bleed. Even Congress is apparently inutile in saving consumers from profit raking…

Magnitude 7.2 in Metro Manila, Are We Ready?
It was earlier reported that the Valley Fault System (formerly West Valley Fault) is “ripe for movement”. Previous researches also warned that a magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Metro Manila would likely to happen. A report from gmanews.tv… The Metro Manila Impact Reduction Study conducted in 2004 by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) found that the capital is vulnerable to a magnitude-7.2 earthquake that may be generated by the West Valley Fault. The study assessed Metro Manila’s preparedness and estimated that there could be 35,000 fatalities, 500 simultaneous fires in up to 98,000 buildings, and…

Why Asking For The President’s Psychological Records?
If you were asked to bring out in public your psychological records, would it anger you or express willingness to do so? If you have nothing to hide that kind of challenge is no big deal. “Marahil, higit na makabubuti kung ilabas ninyo, Ginoong Pangulo, ang inyong SALN, at ipaliwanag ito sa taong-bayan. Siguro, isama ninyo na rin ang inyong bank accounts at psychological records na matagal ng isyu. Mayroon po tayong obligasyon na ipakita sa taong-bayan na maayos ang ating pagiisip.” Obviously, Philippine Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona is trying to divert the attention of the Filipinos on President Aquino’s mental state, which has been an issue long…

Boxing Is Deadly But….
An amateur boxer like me will always be inspired by great boxing icons. Constantly hungry of new moves and strategies to win. That is despite the fact that tragedy can happen like head trauma which sometimes could lead to death. Today I visited Karlo Maquinto, 21 years old, who is currently in the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Quezon City. He is a young boxer with good professional record of 8 wins, no loose and 1 draw. Maquinto is now in comatose because of subdural hematoma after he had a fight with another young boxer Mark Joseph Costa last Saturday. They are the undercard fight in Dodie…

Aquino’s Man A Piracy Poster Boy?
The Philippine government is serious on its campaign against piracy. Really? So why Presidential Political Adviser Ronald Llamas bought pirated DVDs in a mall? Is Llamas trying to prove that the government’s drive against piracy is weak? According to the Optical Media Board (OMB), purchasing pirated for personal use is not penalized by law, however, if it is more than 8 pieces it could be use for business and that is against the law. So why President Aquino is reluctant to act against his man? Is it the policy of the incumbent administration to tolerate bad boys in the cabinet? UPDATE: Just today, President Aquino was quoted that the eradication…

Photo Of PNoy With Prosecution Head
Upon seeing this photo, what comes to your mind? It might be highly inappropriate and suspicious to see the President having lunch or dinner with the head and members of the prosecution on the impeachment case against Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona. The three branches of government should be independent at all times. Isn’t it? Most of the prosecution members were solons and allies of the President in Liberal Party. Recently, they had a dinner party to celebrate the anniversary of the political party. The administration should have postponed the party and maintain a distance from the prosecution members, at least, until the case has been concluded. Should we…

Kidnapping And Extracting Of Internal Organs Of Children Must Stop
Apparently, the authorities were not taking seriously the reported kidnapping of children and then extracting their internal organs which eventually led to the death of those innocent kids. Organs such as heart, eyes and kidneys were said to be sold at a tempting price. Does this sound unbelievable? Yes, but if we would believe the testimonies of the young witnesses especially those who escaped from the dreadful hands of the syndicate, it should make the government and law enforcers act decisively and firmly. Witnesses fearfully stated the same stories on how they were kidnapped and dragged onboard a van. Then, the suspects would inject something on the victims and incised…

Remembering My Impeachment Trial Coverage and Edsa Dos
Former President Joseph Estrada made history when he became the first impeachable official that was tried at the impeachment court, although the process failed to finish when the People Power 2 erupted in January 2001. The impeachment was triggered by the allegations of Estrada’s close friend, Ilocos Sur governor Luis Chavit Singson. He claimed that Erap received from him P400 million as payoff from jueteng and hidden in a bank account as Jose Velarde. November 13, 2000 when the impeachment case was filed against Estrada and, then House Speaker Manny Villar fast-tracked the complaint and brought to the Senate, which convened as an impeachment court with former Supreme Court Chief…
