Media-Unfriendly Hospitals
It is not to justify colleagues in media. Admittedly, some members of the press are lacking some discipline but it doesn’t mean all are the same. Prominent government officials and celebrities who are being hospitalized, are of course, newsworthy for media people. Reporters may tried to ignore it but since public figures are involve, they have no choice but to cover it. I started covering hospitals or I can call it as “hospital beat” when the former President Gloria Arroyo were confined at St. Luke’s Medical Center- Global in Taguig City. Then followed by the coverage at The Medical City because the impeached Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona was…

Stalking To Be Criminalized In RP
Too much admiration which somehow led to stalking can soon be punishable in the Philippines if the proposed legislations against it were passed. Under the bill filed by Senator Manny Villar, the following acts may be punished with jail from one to six months or a fine of P1,000 to P5,000: repeated phone calls for no legitimate reason sending messages without introducing oneself, or using rude words repeatedly going to a target’s home or office frequently following someone making a scene I just wonder if they would include in the proposed bill the act of silently taking pictures or like doing surveillance to the target person. I bet they could…

National Penitentiary: When The Public Impression Is Wrong
Prisoners behind the high wall and sturdy bars of the National Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa are dangerous, right? So they must stay in prison, forever? They don’t deserve humane treatment after what they did to their victims? Worst, they must die to pay for the lives they have destroyed? Adding insult to an injury, the correctional system is incompetent and corrupt. These are the common public perception about prisoners and the corrections service in the country based on what they see on media interviews. That’s because many are not able to witness what happens behind the wall of prisons. So, if the public impression about the prison system in the…
