“The Holy Father unexpectedly passed away this afternoon. We announce this with grief and consternation.” The Vatican immediately denied the reported twitter message announcing the death of Pope Benedict XVI. Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi dismissed the message as “baseless” and “unworthy of attention".
